Perspective on Foot and Mouth Disease Control in India N.S.N. BHARGAV Vice President (Institutions Business) Indian Immunologicals Ltd, Hyderabad March 9, 2019 Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) is an important livestock disease causing severe economic damage to the livestock sector. It causes more morbidity than mortality and hence is an economically devastating disease among dairy animals. The Government of India has progressively implemented a FMD Control Programme. Although about 40 per cent of the country is effectively covered resulting in significant drop in outbreaks, there are still areas for improvement.
