RAJKOT: Kutch’s Sarhad Dairy is all set to commission its milk processing plant having a capacity of four lakh litres per day in Chandrani village of Anjar taluka.

The dairy is planning to make peda, kaju katli, honey and fruit juice at his plant and market these products under the Amul brand. The foundation stone for this Rs 130 crore plant was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in December 2020.
The dairy’s present plant at Lakhond having a capacity of processing two lakh litre milk per day will be shut after the commissioning of the new facility.

The dairy collects four lakh litres of milk per day which sometimes touches five lakh liters too. The surplus milk is sent to GCMMF’s Ahmedabad plant. The dairy will be able to process the entire milk at Chandarni plant, which will help it save big on transportation cost.

Valamji Humbal, chairman of Sarhad Dairy said, “We will make pasteurised milk, curd, buttermilk, ghee and paneer in larger quantities after the commissioning of the new plant. We will also make peda, kaju katli as well as honey in the future.”

The dairy has started a survey of farmers who are in the business of making honey and arrangements will be made to procure from them.

“There are a large number of farmers in Kutch who make honey but they do not get access to the bigger market. Initially, we will procure honey and send it to Banas and Gandhinagar dairies who have the machinery for processing honey. After getting sufficient quantities, we will procure packaging and processing machinery,” said Humbal.

Plans are also afoot to make juice and pulp of Kutch’s dates, kesar mango and pomegranates at this plant.
